Chelsea 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Darren Bent's late first half strike earned Tottenham a surprise point against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.Chelsea had the edge in the opening half and were rewarded when Juliano Belletti fired them in front. However Spurs got a lucky break to level in first half stoppage time through Bent.

Juande Ramos' side defended well in the second half to keep Chelsea at bay as they failed to engineer any clear-cut chances to win it and maintain their 100% start to the season.

In a lively opening few minutes Frank Lampard very nearly opened the scoring with a fantastic chip on six minutes which had Heurelho Gomes at full stretch to tip over his own crossbar.

Following a lull in the action the game burst into life midway through the half when Belletti found Nicolas Anelka with a great cross and the French striker got between two defenders before uncharacteristically firing over the bar from close range when he should really have scored.

A minute later Michael Essien smashed the crossbar with a fierce 30-yard drive which Jonathan Woodgate cleared behind for a corner. From Deco's flag-kick Bent made a complete mess of trying to clear and just diverted it towards his own goal where Belletti was on hand to convert from close range.

Chelsea looked comfortable in the lead but were stunned right on half time when Lamprd inadvertently diverted an attempted pass from Luka Modric straight into the path of Bent who coolly finished past Blues keeper Petr Cech.

Spurs defended deeply after the break and never really looked like being denied their first point of the campaign, while Chelsea's failure to score a winner means only Liverpool have a chance to make it three victories from three at Aston Villa later on Sunday.
