Alex: Chelsea Are Similar To Brazil

Chelsea new arrival, Brazilian defender Alex, believes that training with Chelsea is just like training for his national team.

He may only be a couple of training sessions into his career at his new club but Alex has already compared the standard favourably with the times he meets up with Ronaldinho, Robinho, Kaka and Co. in the Brazil squad.

The former PSV and Santos star has made his long awaited move to Stamford Bridge after finally obtaining a work permit to complete a deal that started in 2004.

But even after a few days training with the Blues, Alex believes that the club work at the same level as the Brazil national team

“I think the level is the same because here at Chelsea there are many players that play for their national team. I’m sure that the players here are the same level as the Brazilian team,” he said.

Alex is not guaranteed to slot straight into the first team, with tough competition for starting spots when the squad is full fit. The defender has admitted that he is a few weeks away from making his debut

“My objective is to compete with these players and be always ready to be selected by the manager. This is a great challenge and I’m sure I’ll be happy to take it.“Now I’m finally here I’m not physically fit. I hope to be in a couple of weeks’ time. You always feel a bit anxious to start in a new team and have your first game but I’m used to the physical play of PSV and I’m sure Chelsea will be the same,” commented the 25-year-old

The centre back stated that he's excited to be under the wing of Jose Mourinho, who he rates as one of the world’s top managers.

“Even in Brazil people know about his qualities as a manager. I’m sure he’ll be very helpful to me.“He has always been very good to me. I came to Chelsea about four months ago, we had a long chat and he’s a very good person and manger,” he concluded.
