Scolari wants Lampard for keeps

Luiz Felipe Scolari has told Frank Lampard he wants the Chelsea midfielder to work with him for the long term.

The Brazilian joked about staying with the England international for the next decade after Lampard put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract despite a bid from Inter.

Scolari revealed the conversation he had with his player this week at a press conference on Friday afternoon.

"I'm very happy," declared the World Cup winner. "Two days ago, he came to me and said 'Mister, I renew my contract for five years'.

"I said 'thank you, I stay two years and maybe more as coach. Maybe you stay not five years but 10 years and maybe after five years come with me as assistant.'

"It's fantastic for Chelsea because Lampard is not one player. He is not only a player but a symbol for Chelsea.

"The fans are more happy than me. Lampard likes Chelsea, no he loves Chelsea."

Scolari revealed the 30-year-old is always trying out new things on the training ground.

"Look [he will improve] not because I am his coach but because he wants to try things. He is shooting a cross like a banana and direct and he tries to do it every day to improve something."
