Football stars launch Goal4Africa

Some of the biggest names in football have joined a campaign to raise funds for charity ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Germany's Michael Ballack and England's Steven Gerrard were among those taking part in a charity match in the German city of Munich to launch Goal4Africa.

Fans are being asked to donate money every time their team scores to fund education and development in Africa.

The campaign hopes to raise more than $90m (£45m) by 2010.

Saturday's match was organised by former Dutch international Clarence Seedorf.

World Team Two, skippered by Ballack, defeated Seedorf's World Team One 9-6.

Goal4Africa hopes to build a lasting legacy for the continent - using football, a game that is hugely popular across Africa, to help achieve its objective.

Fans will be encouraged to pledge money by text or online for every goal scored by their favourite team over the next two years.
