Sidwell: We Want Title Back

Steve Sidwell admits his Chelsea team-mates are determined to wrestle the Premier League title from Manchester United.

Chelsea were denied a hat-trick of top-flight crowns last season and Sidwell revealed the players are still hurting from the setback.

Though the midfielder was not part of the disappointment, having joined from Reading this summer, he outlined the desire to usurp United this term.

"I'm a new signing and I've only been here for pre-season," Sidwell told Sky Sports News.

"In the four weeks I've been here I can see the pain the players felt from not winning the title.

"The team spirit we've got, and the talent we've got, we're going to push United all the way to get the title back."

Worst part

Sidwell was satisfied with Chelsea's efforts in the Community Shield, which United won on penalties, and he is relishing the opening Premier League game of the season against Birmingham City on Sunday.

He added: "We're coming to the end of pre-season, which is probably the worst part of being a professional footballer.

"The new season kicks off this weekend and everyone is looking forward to it, not just the players, but fans across the world.

"We put in a good performance (against United) and that's what's key, especially in pre-season.

"As long as the performance is there, and the fitness is there, for the start of the season, that's the main concern.

"The boss is happy with everyone and we're going into Sunday's game with Birmingham full of confidence and looking for three points."
