osé Mourinho has given his views on the heated draw up at Anfield, and explained that he thinks the referee was right to award us the penalty that earned us a point.
'The only thing I want to say is that in the box there is no advantage law, so because the ball went to Didier and he was alone, there is no advantage law. If the referee sees a foul it's a penalty, so when Malouda opens the legs to let the ball go to Didier, and is kicked from behind, I think it's a penalty,' the manager reasoned.
With anticipated title rivals Manchester United and Arsenal both dropping points, a share of the spoils up at Anfield can be seen as a good result for the Blues, but Mourinho is adamant his side went looking for the victory.
'We came here to win the game, I think we showed that with the team we started the game. Many of you think Chelsea comes here and plays Makelele, Essien in midfield, three or four in midfield, but no, we tried to win and we tried for 85 minutes.
'In the last five minutes I'm honest and I say when they play Crouch, Kuyt, Babel, Torres, in that moment I have a giant in my bench, and when I see that giant going in I say "come on its your time".
'I close the door and go home with a point, it's two points Liverpool doesn't get. Yes in that time I know Arsenal draw and Man United lose so I think it's positive but it's fair to say Chelsea tried to win the game like Liverpool did.'
With Ricardo Carvalho missing through injury, the manager was relieved to have John Terry fit to return.
'It's very important for us, especially as Ricardo is not here. When we play against Liverpool at Anfield we never play here with our ideal best team.
'I would like to play here with John and Ricardo, last year I played Paulo and Essien. Champions league I played Essien and John, now I play Ben-Haim and John. But the reality is that in this moment we have four central defenders and Ricardo is injured but we have Alex and Tal and John. I think we did our work well, we have a team with a better balance, it's not a drama for us that Ricardo is injured.'
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez felt his side had the better of the game, but acknowledged that Chelsea are still a benchmark for his side to strive towards.
'For me we had chances, created chances for winning. We have two less points to take, we have to think about the next game and be positive,' he said.
'It's difficult, when you have Chelsea, Arsenal and United this year spending big money I think its too soon for talking about anything. Its just to keep going, keep winning if possible and see what happens in one or two months and see if Chelsea, United or Arsenal are the ones.'
